Foxy's Story

Foxy's story began in Sept. 1995. I had recently lost my German Shepherd, Leloo. We decided to go to our local Animal Shelter in search of a pup in need of a loving home. We were going to get a smaller dog this time (or so we thought) Well, as we entered, the first face to greet us was a 5 month old pup named Foxy. I didn't say anything because I thought "No, not small". We went up and down the row of kennels a few times and no small pups. We were about to leave when my mom said "No one asked me", so we did. Guess who caught her eye and kept it, FOXY. After filling out the adoption papers we went home, hoping for a phone call that would tell us she was ours. The next day that wonderful call came. So on Sept. 19, 1995 Foxy became a part of our family. She was the sweetest, happiest and smartest little girl anyone could ask for. We started Obedience Classes and met a terrific instructor, Diana, who along with her 4 Aussies all became great friends. Foxy graduated Beginning, Intermediate and even Competition class and earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate. Around a year old she was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, which explained her weight gain despite cutting down on food. With that under control life was great. In Sept of 1997 we added another edition to the family. Her name was Pepper and she was 4 1/2 months old. She was the daughter of my brother's English Springer Spaniel, Lady. Pepper's dad was a blue merle Australian Shepherd, her mom a registered Springer. Foxy and Pepper became inseperable. Then Foxy had two bouts of Pancreatitis. I almost lost her the second time. Thanks to a wonderful, caring Veterinarian I didn't. Then Pepper started having seizures. Full blown gran mals. Foxy seemed to sense when one was about to happen and she would stay by Pepper's side until it was over. After trying all we could we lost Pepper 6 months later at the age of 10 months. Foxy grieved along with the rest of the family. Things slowly got back to normal except for the chronic ear and skin infections. We finally did an allergy test and started allergy shots. Things got better for a while. One morning I noticed she had cut her lip and was bleeding. We went to see the Dr. and he noticed she was hemmoraging into her eyes and skin. The test revealed very low Platlets (her blood couldn't clot) Again my poor baby was on more meds and again things cleared up. Then around July 2002 her appetite started to diminish, so off to the Dr. we went. After numerous blood tests, Urine tests and an Ultrasound we got the bad news, Kidney Disease. More meds, and a few days in the hospital for IV fluids Foxy came home a new dog. She started losing weight, was more active and her appetite was back. I was on cloud Nine. She kept getting her blood levels checked yet despite everything they still went up. Then on Oct 6th her appetite left again and so did her energy. Back to the Dr. on th afternoon of the 9th. One more blood test and another stay for IV fluids was the recommedation. I told her to be good for them and I'd visit her in the morning. At 9am on Oct 9th I recieved a call that I never expected, "Foxy had died during the night". I never had a chance to tell her I Loved her or to say Goodbye. She had developed a stomach ulceration due to the disease and it must have progressed extremely fast, something perforated and she died from Internal bleeding, Foxy was 7 1/2 yrs. old. I have her ashes along with Leloo's, Pepper's and Sabbath's so in a way she will always be with me. I Miss her so much. She was plagued from the start with health problems but never lost her Love for life or her family. She was my Special Girl and is now my Special Angel.
